Rocky Marval

New Egypt is even home to an Olympic athlete - Rocky Marval. Rocky at age 26, along with his partner, Calla Urbanski, entered the 1992 Olympics as a figure skating pair.

Rocky was born Rocco Marvaldi, but shortened it in elementary school. He learned to ice skate on the pond behind the American Legion Building. His family owned R&M Trucking and Rocky learned to drive the two ton dump truck. It was joked that he might be the "world's only truck-driving figure skater".

To help them reach their dream of going to the Olympics, New Egypt School gym teacher Gary Conk and his wife, Pam, set up MUST (Marval-Urbanski Skating Trust) to raise money. During one of the fundraisers, Rocky autographed pictures, writing on them -

"Always shoot for the moon - Rocky Marval."
